Marys Light Tunnel
It all begins with an idea.
One day a good friend of mine told me he bought a whole bunch of Christmas lights that were going to be thrown away. He asked if I had any ideas as to what we could do with them. I told him we could make a tunnel. Mary’s Tunnel was borne.
The fun part about this project has been really the exploration of relationships. When we started this project, it seemed a little crazy as there was no precedent for an installation for like this, and the fear of the river flooding. But by moving forward, we were able to develop a relationship
We started with one section as a prototype, and in about a week it blew over.. i had built it too tall and hadn’t supported it right. The phone calls I had received were not that excited.
Fast forward a bit, we have the tunnel at almost 100 feet, and have had it up for 3 seasons now.
I would like to thank Dan, Holly, Folkways and everyone who has come by, taken photos, gotten engaged, or otherwise made the trek to visit the tunnel.
Thank you!
